Cervical Disc Herniation with Radiculopathy

Do you suffer from severe neck or arm pain that is unresponsive to medical management? Dr. Francis helps patients with this condition through a treatment called anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). He approaches the condition from the front of the neck, allowing him to ensure the nerve is fully decompressed. In most cases, patients are discharged from the hospital the morning after surgery. The pain resolves immediately after surgery and patients experience very minimal post-op pain.

Cervical Arthroplasty

Some patients with degenerative cervical disc disease are candidates for cervical arthroplasty. Cervical disc replacement retains the normal biomechanical motion of the cervical disc and minimizes the negative effects of fusion in the cervical spine. With these procedures, Dr. Francis will implant a prosthetic cervical disc to replace the herniated or degenerative disc. To see if you are a candidate for cervical arthroplasty, schedule an appointment with Dr. Francis today.

Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy

Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy is a condition seen more commonly in patients 65 and older. Its symptoms can include chronic progressive loss of hand function, numbness in hands, gait instability, urinary retention, and neck pain, just to name a few. Surgical decompression and fusion takes the pressure off of your spinal cord and allows it to heal, often restoring lost function and stopping the progression of the disease. No matter what spinal condition you’re facing, Dr. Francis can help. Contact his office at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland today to schedule a consultation with him.
